While reading about Electric Imp's SD card form factor WiFi processor/radio (see Adafruit's website), I noted it uses a language called Squirrel. A bit of reading, squirrel seems to be a merger of C++ and Python, as an interpreted language with a VM core like Python, Lua and C#. I see implementations of Squirrel over the last 2-3 years on Linux, MAC, windows.
The Electric Imp product is said to use a Cortex M3. This suggests that Squirrel can be squeezed into an embedded system's MCU rather than a big fat OS host.
I wonder if Squirrel makes sense as a rapid prototyping tool and perhaps easier than C++ for newbies since, like Python, it's a "higher level language" than is C++.
Anyone ever worked with Squirrel? (No wise-cracks!)
Is it even sensible given we have Python and Javascript that are almost able to run on an M4 - were it not for the migration of libraries.
