iPad and Teensy 3.1 - solving powering issue

Hello,

I want to use a Teensy 3.1 as a USB MIDI device (as emitter) and connect it to an iPad retina. The iPad won't connect to the Teensy. There is a message on the iPad stating that the Teensy cannot be powered by the iPad.

I know it's possible to establish the connection over a powered USB hub but I would prefer not to use a hub.

If I power the Teensy with a dedicated power adapter will the iPad refuse the connection too? In this case, is there any solution besides the hub ?

I suspect you probably want to cut the solder jumper underneath the Teensy 3.x that connects VIN to VUSB. This would mean the Teensy would never draw power from the USB source, and you would have to apply 3.5 - 5.5v to VIN/ground to power the Teensy (or regulated 3.3v to the 3.3v pin and ground): http://forum.pjrc.com/threads/19228...ng-VIN-from-VUSB-Teensy-3-0?p=44024#post44024
