Teensy as a Dongle

I would like to be able to use a Teensy 2 in a "dongle" form factor. Is there any good source for a (solid, not cable) USB-A plug to USB-mini plug adapter? I haven't been able to find one. (Similar question for Teensy 3 and USB-micro adapter).

I did see that one guy epoxied a USB-plug onto a Teensy as a replacement to the existing mini or micro receptacle, but would like to avoid that route for the time being :)

Thanks,
John

Gotta Google for it...there's plenty of adapters out there, but it's a little difficult to find a reasonable price on a wide selection (so you can buy a bunch of random adapters and only pay shipping once!)

Here's one from NewEgg...$1.69 plus free shipping. I think I'll buy a couple of these myself!

I actually saw those on ebay as well, but if they are actually female ("receptacle") on the USB-A end, it's not what I need. It *looks* like a male ("plug") USB-A, but if so they are mis-labeled, and I can't tell for sure from the image.

Thanks,
John

I think the NewEgg part is correctly labelled, it looks like the female USB-A connector which you normally find mounted in a PC. The male USB-A connector (as on a USB memory stick) does not have the springy fingers on the outer housing, that this one has.

That's what I was thinking.

I wish there was a Teensy with a USB-A plug form factor-- "teensy on a stick" :)

This might do, if you are willing to wait for delivery: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-X-USB-A-Male-to-Mini-USB-B-5-Pin-Male-Adapter-Converter-/221044505685?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item3377477c55

Here is one from a USA based seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-3-0-Type-A-Male-to-Mini-B-Male-Adapter-Connector-Blue-Small-Converter-PLug-/370710061861?pt=US_USB_Cables_Hubs_Adapters&hash=item56500aa325

Here is a version for the Teensy 3.0: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-USB-2-0-A-Male-To-Micro-B-Male-5-Pin-Plug-Adapter-Converter-/140893076159?pt=UK_WSJL_Wholesale_GL&hash=item20cde1babf

This USB breakout board that might be useful: http://www.robotshop.com/productinfo.aspx?pc=RB-Cyt-102&lang=en-US

However, another approach suggests itself. Get the smallest mini-B to female A cable you can find, and/or get a normal one and slice it to size. On one side of your breadboard/pcb, put the teensy with the USB connection at the end. Attach the cable and loop the cable underneath the breadboard/pcb and then glue the female A side of the cable to the back end of the board, so you just turn the teesy around to insert it in the USB slot. Assuming the teensy is in a dip-24 slot soldered to the board, you can just remove the cable and teensy when you want to switch to something else. Something like this: http://www.robotshop.com/productinfo.aspx?pc=RB-Cyt-102&lang=en-US

With mini-B being deprecated, I expect you will need to look harder to find cables, etc.

There are other microprocessors out there that are made as dongles.

Not quite following that  I'm looking for a small-as-possible dongle format. I'm thinking I will have to go this route: http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/projects/cableless_teensy.jpg

Thanks!

I'll like to second the request for dongle versions of the Teensy 2 and Teensy 3 :) Pretty please...

[Someone who has just ordered a lot of adaptors similar to those linked above... wishing that he didn't need to]
