I have very simple Teensy 2.0 project ( sending state of two toggles to MS Windows over USB). Is there any danger of Teensy overheating and damage if it is placed in tight space without vents? Let’s say there is only 1 mm free space around the Teensy 2.0 board. I could design more free space around it and some vents, but I would rather not if it doesn’t matter.

You're probably fine with that. The chip needs very little cooling.
Unless you tightly pack the unused space with the world's best insulating materials, it'll probably be fine.
