I just had one instance of PHY reset reestablishing the link, where I'm pretty sure it would have died before. I will continue testing during the week.

I've also got this problem now, and the solution mentioned above does not work for me. I can't get the link back up without reseating the ribbon cable to the network jack, or power cycling the Teensy. I can never remember having this problem...
