What are the typical causes of frying a Teensy 3.6?

I'm working on a custom PCB for a Teensy 3.6. It is a robot controller with various voltage regulators on board, a circuit for controlling Dynamixel servos, motor controllers, xbee connector, sensor connectors and so on. All the various features work fine, but several times now, I've killed the...

Dynamixel Support (bioloid libraries) on Teensy processors...

Thanks for the update on the library. Sounds good. :) To answer your question, the modified library has been working totally great with the XL-430 and soon the XM-430. After using Hitec PWM-style servos for many years, I have to say, I totally love these smart servos. Regarding our project: My...

Dynamixel Support (bioloid libraries) on Teensy processors...

ax12SetRegister4 was giving me inconsistent results that I didn't understand. It would move the servo to some positions, but not others. I couldn't figure out if I needed to pass it an integer from 0-4095 or a 0x-style hex value. I didn't understand the behavior of what it was doing (and usually...

My test program is now compiling and I'm getting a little movement. That's a good sign. It's not moving the way I think it should quite yet, but I'm continuing the testing.

I resolved that last error. I needed to list the two new functions in ax12Serial.h. I did that now. On to the next error...

Dynamixel Support (bioloid libraries) on Teensy processors...

I add the two new function names to the keywords.txt file. The IDE is now highlighting the function call in orange, like it does the other functions, so that's good, but I'm getting the same error. Still looking.

I have copied and pasted the two new functions into the ax12Serial.h file. When I compile, it's saying "'ax12SetRegister4' was not declared in this scope". Do I need to modify one of the other library files so that it knows the new functions are there?

I haven't tried that. The control table is very different. None of the addresses match up. I'm currently putting your function into the modified library.

Thanks. I will try out these functions and see how they work. To answer your questions: The X-series servos default to Protocol 2. But they can be configured to use Protocol 1 (It's an EEPROM setting). I've done that. So we are working entirely with Protocol 1.0 here. Yes, the position values...

Dynamixel Support (bioloid libraries) on Teensy processors...

KurtE, I received my XL420-250-T Dynamixel servos, set them to Protocol 1.0 (so they would act more like AX12s in terms of protocol), wired one up to my Teensy 3.6, and modified the Control Table in your BioloidSerial library to accommodate the X-Series control table. I then created a...

Teensy 3.6 external power via VIN and the GND near pin 13 ?

OK. Thank you. My approach should be OK then. I checked all the pins in the socket with a multimeter. I found my problem. I had a stray lead connecting 12v to the TX1 and another stray lead connecting 7.4V to the A2 line. When I turned on power to the PCB, it burned a 1/2" hole in the Teensy...

Teensy 3.6 external power via VIN and the GND near pin 13 ?

I am designing a PCB for a robot. It has a socket for a Teensy 3.6, which will act as the robot's microcontroller. Is it OK to power the Teensy by connecting 5V to the Teensy's VIN pin and ground to the Teensy's GND pin next to pin 13? My assumption is that all the GND pins are connected to each...

Suggest next Teensy with Cortex M7

Paul, Thank you so much for all the work you do. I love the Teensy 3.6. And I'm excited to hear about the future of Teensy with the Cortex M7 Teensy 4.0. Sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing a glimpse into the Teensy future. I know it's still early, but are you thinking that it will have the same...

Dynamixel Support (bioloid libraries) on Teensy processors...

Thanks for the info. I could definitely be wrong, but from what I can tell, the T suffix on the end of the XL430-W250-T indicates that it is a 3-wire TTL servo rather than a 4-wire RS485 servo. Some of the servos in the X-series line have the T suffix. Others have the R...

Thank you again for the help getting my Teensy 3.6 to work with my AX-12s. I'm going to be moving into Dynamixel XL430 servos now (and eventually into the higher end X-series servos). I have the program working! The program is reading valid data from the servo and it's controlling it (changing its position, etc.). Very cool! :) Thank you. :) My next step is to simplify the program to remove the Quad, Hex, Turret, and other definitions and code unrelated to my project. I...
