    Volumetric Visualizer display Feedback wanted

Hello Everyone I have completed my music visualization prototype and I would like to see what you think. :) I made a video that shows and explains my design, here is the full version here is the summarized version. After seeing my design I would be grateful for you to answer these questions...

    PCB construction Time lapse

Hello everybody I decided to make a video of me making my tenth board, its here on youtube. This is for my 3d pov music visualizer project. I'm using the toner transfer method so it takes a while, by the time I found a affordable faster alternative it was too late. Tell me what you think...

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

I think he is just referring to GND, I have the same power supply it has the symbols +V & -V to show the difference between the ground for the mains and the 5v. So it leads to call the ground -5V. But what would one need multiple polarities of supply in a circuit for anyway?
  5. Q

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

The reason it only works when the grounds are connected is because otherwise the data signal from the teensy, is like its not connected to the circuit at all. The signal comes from the teensy and it will only travel where it can get back to the teensy, there is no direct connection between the...

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

So the problem is only the neopixel library works and you think its because of the way the power is connected? Either the power is connected or its not. With the octo library have you connected pins 15&16? not doing that would cause you problems. What pin do you connect the data to? But it...

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

The 10 bytes represents 20*0-15 values, these are the bar values of each frequency. No I am not using a two way communication that relies on instant responses, I realize how inefficient that is. I am already doing what you suggested, having processing blindly send the data to a buffer array...

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

OK Paul I will get to fixing those issues. But in the larger terms do you think the teensy and processing combination plus the overhead of POV, is capable of achieving what I want? (I would like at least 20fps, with 10 bytes per frame real time) Am I doomed from the start because of a delay...

Have you read through all of the octo library information yet? Just telling us it doesn't work doesn't give us anything to go on; what does work, what do you think is causing the problem? Maybe upload a photo of your wiring?

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

The data represents bar values it takes 4 bits to store 16 values as 0-15, so I fit 2 in each byte. so I will make a bar music visualization, you must have seen one before? Here an led cube take on what I'm doing. The only thing similar to that project is its a pov, it doesn't have any live...

Yes that is correct, got any ideas how to increase the performance? I'll won't be able to upload a photo until later today, but the setup is a little messy.

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

Sorry I didn't think the * would matter that much, you can't use find and replace with a space? Communication isn't one of my strong points (ironically could be the problem with the display performance :P) Hardware setup I simply have a piece of proto board with two 74HC595 shift registers...

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

I would expect that is too much. But because you are connecting to usb power, it all depends on your computer. Try searching for the output capabilities of your usb ports. Drawing to much current over usb might do nothing to your computer or it may brick it, I recon you could get away with...

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

If you are using the teensy 3 and the ws2811, then you can't go better than using the octosw2811 library. It is specifically designed for what you are doing. You are programming it with teensyduino right? Or are you doing it with the native code, I'm not familiar with that either. Look at the...

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

Bit-banging; instead of using the specifically designed library for communication, taking the crude approach and manually toggling (switching) the pins. That code is a little messy, don't worry that you don't get it. What do you want to learn about there are a lot of areas you can go into...

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

Personally I'm not familiar with matlab, is it just simulating the logic structure or something? What are you trying to achieve by using it? Have you got the strip running, what board are you using. I suggest playing around with example code, start simple change the colour of some random leds...

    Audio Visualizer with ws2811

Welcome I have been working on something similar, a 3d POV music visualizer that uses minim in processing. I posted some early code and explanations here that you may find useful. In the case of where to start on the teensy code; First set-up some code that sets the leds depending on an...

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

I have fixed the display code so it only updates at the start of each time section, but it doesn't appear as if it has done much to improve the speed. I will have to do more testing.
  19. Q

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

I think I have found the root of the problem, the display isn't only updating once for each section. This will be having a dramatic effect on performance. This is backwards, it should be "sectionCnt >= timeResolusion" But it seems that this isn't the whole problem, it was just covering it.

Teensy 3 POV display serial speed problem

Hello all I am working on a 3D pov music visualizer. But I have found the delay between processing and the running display is too large, for my purposes. I'm not sure what part of my code is the bottleneck, Can you please help? right now there is about an 500ms delay between changing the...

    3D pov display Full Design

No the circuit actually doesn't cost more, it will cost a bit less. Using the 3x the 595 means I can only get a few different colours, at the cost of 3X slower update rate. I think that the higher switching speed with the common control, would make it look cooler than using 3x595s. With the...

    3D pov display Full Design

Yes making a full schematic is on the to do list. The idea is to have the same main control as a single colour POV, but with background high resolution rainbow effects :) The tlc5940 is to expensive for me. It will make good use of the Teensy 3 PWM You have to admit, it would look cool ;)

  24. Q

    3D pov display Full Design

The PWM is controlled independently from the shift registers. The shift registers only control if each led is on or not. All of the leds colours will have a common power, so I can only change the colour in the time dimension. So the direct pwm from the teensy will switch transistors, to...

What are the most important parts of your projects design?

Hello everybody I am making a kit for us electronics hobbyists and I want to know what the rest of you think is important in a design. I know for me that cost is one of the most important things, but is that just me? So I have made a quick little survey, if you are in the mood here are the...

Project brief feedback - volumetric music visualizer

Thanks for the interest and advice guys. Yes the success of an open project comes down to a lot of factors out of my hands. But all I really want is an epic music visualization, it ends up being that an open project is better for that goal. If I was designing this for the...

Project brief feedback - volumetric music visualizer

Yeah I have decided using processing will be the best option all round, but the design approach wasn't exactly what I intended this post to be for, yet. What do you actually think of the idea? Could you see hobbyists using a kit/design, to jump to working towards the large goal of better music...

I am at the stage where I'm trying to get all the basics up and running before I can do something cool with it. I have got a very crude pov running, but I'm having problems controlling...
