Bat detector

Hi all again,

sorry to bother you but after my last posts I ran into a serious problem and for now I´d really appreciate your help.
My problem is that after fiddling around with my recordings on an external card reader on my Mac and after re-inserting the card into the teensy, it now constantly comes up with a "no sd card" message and I cannot record any longer.
I tried a different card and it showed the same message.
So for the moment I´m clueless about what to do.
Can someone please guide me along my way to understand the issue and to work towards a solution?
Thank you in advance for all efforts you take!
best
Rainer
hello all,
i Was able to fix my Problem today by inserting a newly bought card. What happened still is a mystery, but I’m back on track.

Hello All,

Does anyone have a 3D printable case for the project for PCB 0.8? Or does it matter? Will a case for V0.7 work for a V0.8 version device?

Hi.

The new forum setup makes me loose track of questions. I have my preferences set to get notified when someone posts on this thread but ... I dont get any of those arriving. So I am sorry not to have been of any help.

@Rainer: the brand/type of SDcards is important. Sometimes clones are sold as "brands". When you record regularly using the TeensyBat its very important that the SDcard is keeping up the high writing-speed. Do you remember which SDcards you used that did not perform properly ?

@matt: I cannot help with 3D, maybe others can step in.

cheers

Hi,

I am not using TeensyBat a lot but Edwin does, the libraries we created in 2024 should be used. As far as I know larger SDcards can be used but the quality of the SDcard is important. So for each new SDcard you use I would suggest a trial session before using it for something you want to keep.

Well, Here is what I found. I can record onto a really good 128 GB Samsung Class 10 SD card, but I cannot use the playback feature with that card. When I record to the card, I can see the files and whatnot on the card if I take it out and look on it with my PC. But when it is in the TeensyBat, the playback function has some problem showing the contents of the card - it just comes up as empty with no directories or anything.

OK. That is something I have never tested as I do not own a 128Gb Card. And I suggest NOT to take the SDcard in/out of teensbat as in due time it will wear the contacts. You can connect the USB of teensybat to a PC and download the files from there.

@CorBee Right, I do not usually remove/replace, but in the interest of testing I did. I really like the playback feature on the TeensyBat because I have added a Bluetooth dongle and speaker so I can play the sounds out loud for my family and friends. I would happily buy you a 128 card for testing - PM me with details and I will either send you one or send you some money for one...

Hi Marc,

No need for that as I am currently not actively working on this project. We tend to do updates every spring (just before the "bat" season) and next year we can have a look what the problem for this is. If you can test the "largest" SD card that still allows normal playback that would be helpfull I think.

cheers

Hi all,

sorry that I reply so late, but after I realised that the forum seemed abandoned, I left. Good to see you back.

So the card that gave me problems was an Intenso 32GB class 10. I finally got replaced by a SanDisk Ultra 32GB class 10. The new card worked out of the box.
With the old one I tried to format it in several ways but gave up as the teensy would not accept it no longer. Can someone give directions on what format the card has to be using?

Additionally I am running on a Mac and even with a working card the teensy bat is not mounting as an external storage when I connect the micro USB, so I will have to take it out to download data.
Or am I missing something here?

Here is what I have found after buying lots of no-name brand SDCards and the like. They are usually mismarked and not nearly the speed which they claim. I now only buy industry leading name brands and i pay enough so that I will actually go back to the store if they do not work and get my money back. Pretty much I only get SanDisk now. The last ones I got were a 2 pack for $24.95 USD, so still pretty cheap.

The thing is that it worked until I started freeing space by deleting files from the card in an external card-reader.
Someone here in the forum once described that mac OS is indexing the card by some hidden files and that this was tampering the ability of teensybat to play files from the card.
Although my problem seems different I got suspicious that it might just be a question of formatting the card correctly to reanimate it for teensybat.

So maybe someone could comment on the right format (filesystem) for the card?

Hey everybody! Do any of you want to share the various setting for AGC, filtering, etc that you are using? I am wondering if I can get better results by setting my device with better parameters. There are a lot of cicadas out about now and it is warm, so I am wondering if there are good settings to filter some of their noise out.

Hi, I’ve just completed my Teensybat device and all is working very well. I have encountered the same problem though, I have a Lexar 256GB class 10 U3 card that records well and don’t have any problems with it, except it will not play back the sounds, but on a PC no problems with it, yes 256 is a bit of an overkill but the only one I have available from my camera, I want to buy a new one but not sure which size enables playback, is 32GB the largest that works? Also I set my device to test auto record and left it outside on the table for 20 mins, the results were analysed with ‘BTO acoustic pipeline’ and noted 3 bat species common pipistrelle, noctule and lesser horseshoe, 2 insects specked bush cricket and dark bush cricket one other species which was greater white toothed shrew and 1 bird that was unidentified. Not bad for a first test I thought, at least I know my electronic skills are still good in spite of getting older. I will try to debug the playback problem but my programming skills are pretty basic so don’t hold your breath. But what a brilliant project Teensybat really is so thanks to Edwin and everyone else involved in the project it’s excellent.

I am sure that any of us might be able to debug it, but as far as I know, the code is not available. I think the code from previous versions is out there but I do not think the current version is available.

Hey all. I'm just curious if anyone happens to have both the TeensyBat and the Echo Meter Touch. Just curious about how the SNR and stuff compares

I've got access to both (once I get a TeensyBat) and was just wondering if I'd be repeating someone else's project before jumping in

Hi All,

The project is still active (in response to some messages above) but we have had no active development this year. When something works without glitches or large errors there is no need for updates. Edwin and I will look again in spring to see if something needs changing. And this forum isnt "behaving" for me, normally a forum sends me a message when a thread where I participate changes. And it used to do that ... but it doesnt anymore. So I have no idea if anybody asks a question etc, as the overall participation isnt daily or even monthly I am not checking this regular also. But everybody knows how to reach us via normal mail.
Cheers
Cor

I get regular updates. Perhaps you should check your membership settings. Click "CorrBee" at the top of the page, then select Preferences.

I have not gotten a single email since the transition to the new forum/server. Somehow "Hotmail" decided the server was to be banned. It doesn't even get as far as JUNK mail - just discarded without notice.

All the forum emails to hotmail immediately bounce. Here's the error I can see in the bounced messages.

Several times I looked through their site's suggestions. Also Google search turned up other sites getting "550 5.7.1", so far no resolution. I've pretty much given up. If you find anything useful, please let me know?
