Discreprency between LINEIN info in SGTL5000 and Audio System Design

Hi folks,

In the SGTL5000 data sheet the Vmax for the LINEIN (page 6) is stated as 2.83Vpp, but the information in the Audio system Design says the highest sensitivity is 3.12Vpp. Can anyone explain the discrepancy?

Nope, I can't really explain this, other than to tell you I personally measured with a function generator, oscilloscope and simple code telling me when the peaks were hitting the max values to get the numbers shown on that page. Maybe I made a mistake?

I'd be inclined to go with your word Paul! When I get round to testing it I'll let you know!

Incidentally, do you know if it's possible to find out about the voltage tolerance (as in before it gets damaged) for the LINEIN inputs. I've looked over the datasheet and can't see anything related to it. I guess we know it's at least 3.12Vpp :)

Datasheet says GND-0.3 to V[DDA]+0.3 Volts (maximum ratings) for any analog input. V[DDA] is rated to 3.6V, so -0.3V to 3.9V, assuming that GND is 0V.

I expect that analog performance goes way down when you get closer to the supply voltage. So the datasheet value is likely the maximum input voltage where they can guarantee reasonable performance.

Yeah i suspect that to be the case myself.
