LCD Display

What would be a good LCD display for numerical only. I don't need a touch screen. It would be displaying 2 numbers only in increments of 01 - 16. This is for a teensy 4.1

This is for a midi footswitch unit I made. I decided to improve it a bit by being able to switch midi channels. I need the display to see the channel number. Thanks for your response ,I'll look into your suggestion.

Thanks I'll look into that. I was looking at the ili9341 lcd display. But I don't need a touch screen.

You can get the ILI9341 without touch
…but overkill for a 1½-digit display, surely? Though it does give you opportunities for creeping featurism, like “ooh, I could monitor and display MIDI data density, and the phase of the moon”!

Maybe a LED 8 digit display instead rather than LCD? You can get MAX7219-based displays pretty cheap and there's drivers included as part of Teensyduino. Or since it only has to display 1-16, could use an 8x8 LED dot display.

I was thinking more like this, only a couple of wires to connect (I2C SCL and SDA) and the LEDs are multiplexed by the driver so they won't pull a lot of current like using a 74HC595 would. You'd just need to come up with some dot patterns for the numbers.

Appreciate all the impute. I'm leaning toward the oled display as I might name the banks in the future. Thank you

Well, being that this is a foot pedal and is quite far from the eyes, I think a 2.8" ILI9341 with a large font would be perfect for this case

If for displaying text, then the OLED could be a little too small to read.
For one of my pedals, I'm using this round 240x240 GC9A01A SPI display as pictured here:

Yes, the GC9A01A is a very nice display. That's about 1.28" diameter, so pretty similar to the 1.3" 128x64 in terms of size, but of course you do get 16-bit colour plus some extra real estate for the bank names (though probably not enough to be readable when standing).

I just tried an SSD1306 0.91" 128x32 OLED:

and yes, it's too small to read a 2-digit MIDI channel when it's on the floor and I'm standing - the character height is only abut 5.6mm. I'd expect a 1.3" or so display to be enough; 2.8" would be super, but perhaps a bit vulnerable on the floor? Probably worth a chunk of clear acrylic to protect it...

Some things to think about. Again I appreciate the feedback. I like the idea of being able to name a channel or bank. I also like the simplicity of just numbers.
