Teensy 3.1 No Serial Port.

Hello,
yesterday i tried to upload a Sketch to my Teensy 3.1 but the serial port is not found by the arduino software. When i try to upload i get this:

Teensy did not respond to a USB-based request to automatically reboot.
Please press the PROGRAM MODE BUTTON on your Teensy to upload your sketch.

Nothing happens and the Teensy seems to be bricked.

Is there anything i can do to get it back to life?

Looks like you configured the wrong com port in the Arduino IDE. COM1 is a hardware/system port on most systems and can not be mapped to a virtual usb device.

What System are you using, OS X, Linux or Windoof? Which version?
 
I've tried it on both systems: windows 7 and osx mavericks. On windows the Serial port menu is grey and not accessible, on osx there are just the tty.bluetooth ports.
There is no serial port found when i attach the Teensy to USB.
Is it bricked or complete defective? I cant explain this because yesterday it worked like a charm.
 
normally there is no serial port creation on the Teensy until your application opens the serial port.
The Teensy downloader does not use a USB serial port... it creates/uses a different mecanism.
 
Normally when i connect the teensy to usb i can see a serial port in the arduino ide. Now nothing shows up and the leds on the board are dark. Is there a possibillity that the bootloader is defect? Can i do something to restore it?
 
Try another USB cable. Look in the device manager what happens when you plug in the teensy. Something has to happen in all operating systems. If it doesn't, that simply means that the computer can't see the teensy, either because of a defective use cable or because of a broken teensy.
 
Well, there's 2 separate issues here.

First is how to check if your Teensy is communicating. I think we've established pretty well that you should *not* necessarily be looking for a serial device.

The main issue is whether this Teensy is dead, for whatever reason. From the non-serial stuff above, it certainly sounds like a hardware failure. :(
 
This "no serial port displayed" non-problem comes up several times a week.

A clear, concise getting started for T3 is long overdue. Written by someone other than Paul - who's too close to the forest.
