Howdy,

Reaching out as I have gotten a Teensy 4.0, which lights blinks orange near the 14 pin, and once the button is clicked, blinks red towards the 3V pin.

I am using a Mac and I have tried 3 cables at this point, I am not sure what other trouble shooting I can do. The board is not being identified in my systems report or showing up in available ports for those I only see bluetooth ports. :(

Specs:
MacBook Pro, Intel, Sonoma 14.1.2

Please help

Try a 4th cable!

Slow blink on the red LED (near USB connector) means Teensy is waiting for your PC to begin USB communication.

I know it seems unlikely, but all 3 of those cable are probably power-only cable without data wires. They're incredibly common in bins of leftover cables.

You were right! If anyone else is running into a similar issue, please just order a new cable. The cable I was using was one I used with a particle io project, which literally gets code via wifi, so it didn't require a cable with data wires, just didn't click in my brain.

If only the USB standard had thought about this issue and figured out a different icon or something for the plugs on such a cable... Probably the correct answer is to cut any power-only cables in two whenever you receive one, since as I understand it they are not compliant to the existing standard at all?

In ye olde days (before USB PD was a thing), charging cables or the chargers themselves were meant to short the device's data pins together. There were even some devices that would refuse to charge if that wasn't the case (early ipod shuffles for example).
