Teensy 4.0 Lockable on backorder (is it EOL? Or just popularity/shipping related)

Hello -

I notice that the Teensy 4.0 lockable is on backorder on Sparkfun.

I was going to order a 100 quantity, but I want to doublecheck why it is backordered:
- "popularity"/"shipping disruptions" backorder
- or more pressingly, or an "EOL" backorder (e.g. upgraded Teensy coming).

Just want to be sure, so I can plan my smallbatch hobby manufacturing product accordingly!

It's definitely "popularity".

Thank you!

One humble request (due to my EOL mini-panic).

Try to have a long life, keep selling 4.0 concurrently with whatever/whenever you make as Teensy 5.0.

I hope prices remain low but I acknowledge in this AI era "chip fab shortage" trade tension era, if you are forced to raise prices by a few % on a post-Teensy 5.0 on an "Extended Support" run if it's too costly to keep selling 4.0 and 5.0 simultaneously. If that's the price of preventing an EOL situation!

(Yes, that may mean whatever 5.0 might become cheaper, and you're gently nudging businesses to 4.2 or 5.0 but some of us are hoping 4.0 to be a long life unit for compatibility reasons, since redesigning PCBs is difficult on a small business budget when my original designer just got hired by a big company)

We micro businesses thank you for your wonderful Teensy, the computezilla of tiny low power microcontrollers, which eliminates our need to have to design an IMX1062 into our PCBs. It makes no sense at tiny infrequent 100 batch-build quantities to avoid OTB solutions like yours. Just add your gizmo as a daughterboard instead to an existing PCB product. Designing microcontroller boards is not my forte, I'd rather refine the rest of the PCB.

Hi @GDouglas! Thanks for your question. This is definitely demand - the Teensy 4.0 lockable is gaining users quickly. While we build more to replenish our site soon, it looks like DigiKey has inventory: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/sparkfun-electronics/28368/26266461 . Thank you! Always feel free to reach out to us at support@sparkfun.com.

Thank you! I prefer to buy via Sparkfun because you provide a discount at 100 unit quantities. Digikey doesn't.

But Digikey (temporarily) will do, in the next batch run, if SparkFun isn't restocked by then.

Was almost considering going for Digikey soon if EOL, but I'll wait. (Whew.)
