Thanks Headroom, I feel like a complete idiot. I forgot to put sharing through ethernet on because I do not have the intention to go on the internet with the teensy.... Making an ad hoc network with the MAC works in any case. Thanks all for pointing me in the right direction.

Are you using one of these adaptors to mate the Wiz820 to Teensy 3.1?

If not, it might be worth a try, only $6 for a known-good connection.

Thanks Paul but as said it is up and running. I also changed the reset and select pins to pin 2 and 6 to free up the extra serial ports (I use all three). That would not be possible with the adapter board I suppose.
