About metalgimp
I was born in Washington state and grew up in Connecticut with five siblings and honorable parents. I knew that my profession would be in computers early in my teens. My first computer was an Ohio Scientific, based on the 6502 when I was 15. I disassembled the operating system and rewrote portions. My first attempt at compiler writing was at 17.

I served a Mormon mission in Lima, Peru, from 1982-1983 where I grew to love Peruvians and learn how blessed we are in the USA.

I went to BYU for BS and MS in computer science. Much later I worked on my PhD in computer science at the U of U. In those times I wrote several functioning compilers, operating systems, inference engines, and databases. I worked as a teaching assistant for a few BYU professors.

I met my good, good wife in Columbus, OH. We have six amazing, smart, talented kids. We share music as a hobby. I sing and play the guitar (not very well). My wife and kids play violin, viola, tuba, trombone, piano, and sousaphone. In terms of talent, my kids passed me up years ago.

I regularly shoot firearms and get fat eating treats my kids make. I have made soap, forged aluminum, made artisan bookbinding, and made cheese. I collect plants--mostly banana, orchids, and citrus. I have several patents and have written several books, fiction and nonfiction, and own my own business (on the side, of course).Oh, did I mention I collect hobbies?

I have bipolar, clinical depression, stress, and anxiety disorders.

I believe in a loving God whose Son atoned the sins I have committed so that I can return to them to fulfill man's greatest potential.
Family, writing, programming, firearms, horses, lost arts (soap making, cheese making, bookbinding)
40+ years programming: BYU, HP, Novell, Nationwide, AEP, U of U, and CaptionCall. Am a writer.
