Have a new tablet to play with, so installed WinAVR & moved a known-good (as in - it compiles on my W7 laptop)

file over to the tablet, where it does not compile, apparently because the .dep folder is not generated.

Has anyone got WinAVR working under W8 (w8.1 in my case)?

Hi hexodin -

Had any luck with this? I had to put it on hold to get some work done,

but have some free time now. Platform is a Dell Venue 8 Pro, running

W8.1 32-bit. I'm using Blinky (from the Teensy 2 page ) as a test pgm.

Compiles no problem with WinAVR 4.3.3 on my W7 laptop - On the V8P

will not compile either from Programmer's Notepad or the command line.

Interestingly, the Teensy Loader <does> work, so perhaps there's hope :)

I tried redirecting compiler messages to a text file, with no luck - Some

screenshots are appended.

Aargh - Correcting the ("?") error in line 1 now produces:

WinAVR... maybe this helps..
Arduino 1.05 and Teensy latest work fine. Compile and download to Teensy 3.0 work fine.

Win 8.1
Desktop PC set to boot win 8.1 directly to desktop (skip metro). Start menu restored via $3 shareware.
other than window borders differ (flat, colorless), this win 8.1 is identical to my win 7 that is on a different disk on this PC.
Win 7 and Win 8.1 on this PC are each on different SSDs. Win 8.1 does boot faster. But both boot under 15 sec.

(this is Win 8.1 Enterprise free demo. I wanted to see if win 8.1 can run like Win 7, including network shares, and it does. Important since one can no longer purchase Win 7 full retail).

Thanks for the reply.

My tablet came OEM with W8.1 - I bought a BT keyboard & mouse with the

tablet, & configed it to boot directly to the desktop. Metro pretty much stays

in its cage - I have the distinct impression that it's a shell over W7.

I've heard the free demo

versions are noticeably different from what M$ is selling, but have no hands-on.

The registry is set for IE to boot to Bing as Home Screen; rather than try to edit

the offending key I installed Firefox - Problem solved. The legacy stuff I've installed

works, with the exception of WinAVR - I need to try avrdude from the command

line as well...
