Pet Deterrent Teensy 3.0/3.1 Water Blaster Project

Cats/felines, skunks, squirrels hate water sprayed upon them.
A neighbor, down the street, had her cat jumping on her counters and she wanted a humane way of deterring her cat.

Parts list:

Teensy 3.0/3.1
Hasbro NERF electrostorm water pistol (battery operated - motor driven)
Mini IR Detector Module Pyroelectric Infrared PIR Motion Human Sensor (ebay)
TIP120 Darlington (driver to activate motor water blaster pistol) (Adafruit)
TPS61200 Booster Module (battery operated booster converter for Teensy 3) (Tindie)

Construction and operation:
The booster converter, PIR sensor, Teensy 3 and TIP120 were inserted into PVC piping above the water pistol.
The booster converter taps into the electrostorm water pistol 4 AA battery holder to supply the power
to the Teensy 3 and booster converter. The TIP darlington switches the electrostorm water pistol motor on when the PIR detector
senses an animal or human.

To save power, we put the Teensy 3 into "low power" interrupt driven mode activated by the PIR.
For all the low power components - Teensy 3, PIR and booster, the idle current draw came out to be 250 uA, 55 uA and 50 uA for a total of 355 uA.
3 AA batteries in series = 2500 mAh. 2,500,000 uA / 355 uA = 293 days standby idle time with no motor activation.

Another project solved by the miniature, battery operated, low power, Teensy 3.

Militarizing Your Backyard with Python: Computer Vision and the Squirrel Hordes

A classic of the field is Militarizing Your Backyard with Python: Computer Vision and the Squirrel Hordes (he used python on an old pc with openvision to identify squirrels, and a basic arduino to aim and shoot water canons): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPgqfnKG_T4. Here was his recap after the talk went viral: http://kurtgrandis.com/blog/2012/03/12/recap-of-the-squirrel-hordes/. And he mentions Project Sentry: https://sites.google.com/site/projectsentrygun/.
