Hello,

I was just testing a 60 Led Ws2811 strip and the power doesn't seem consistent and I wonder why...
I'm using a 10A bench power supply set at 5v.
I made a very simple sketch with octows2811 to display red, green and white colours on the whole strip.
When I set the strip to white I see a consumption of 1.82 amps
If I set the colours individually I get this:
Red: 0,99a
Green: 0,85a
Blue: 0,87a

This adds up to 2,71....
I would expect white to be near that value... What could make the strip consume less power when I display white ?

Thanks.

Nat

I'd start with measuring the DC voltage are the far end of the strip while it's set for all white. My guess is it's less than 5.0 volts....

The chips also have idle power!

Means the 1.82 amps include idle and the sum of RGB (2,71A) includes 3x idle.
The difference (890mA) would be 2x idle, resulting in 445mA total or 7,4mA per chip.

But this is still way much more than the 0.9mA desribed in WS2811 idle power.

Indeed. My problem though was my wiring, using thicker and shorter wires really helped.
