Hi,

I have a bunch of spare MK20DX256VLH7. If I buy the Mini54 from the Teensy Store and add VREGs,
is it all that I need to make a "Teensy-Alike" board?

Does the Mini54 need to be connected for normal operation? Or can I make
an external "ISP"-Dongle using it and detach it after programming?

You'll need a xtal, a few capacitors, a USB socket, a push button switch and whatever supporting components the VREG requires (You don't actually need this as the MK20 has one built in which you could use).

You can create a daughter board for the Mini54, and then detach it after programming. I do this when I'm prototyping and checking my boards and my dodgy PCB designs, but would recommend that you make it as a option for you and not a production thing, as buying Mini54's Supports Paul with maintaining and improving all the libraries and future R&D of the Teensy.
