Persistence of vision in an RC plane

Alright, I somehow got myself into POV.
The RC plane part is very easy for me, been doing that for 20 years.
The POV and the microcontrollers are all new to me though but I've done quite a bit of web surfing and I think I have most of the hardware needed to setup something on my plane.

So far I ordered 2 teensy 3.1 with Octo2811 boards and I got 5m of LPD8806 LEDs for testing purposes. I also have alot of WS2812b LED strips for simpler patterns that dont require POV speed.
Power will be supplied by 11.1 volts Li-Po batteries but will be regulated down to 5V to power the controllers and strips.

I am rigging the plane with WS2812b strips just to be able to actually see it at night and safely control it.
The LPD8806 LEDs will be installed as 1 strip of 150 pixels under the wings to ''print'' images or patterns.

Although I can't program Arduino, my brother is going to help me in coding and he keeps saying me it should be alright.

So I guess the main question is, am I missing something obvious to get this project started ?
Thanks for any help.
