Programming Teensy 3.1 from Intel Edison

I have a Intel Edison which is currently connected to a teensy via serial. Since this is all enclosed in a wifi connected robot, I would love to be able to reprogram the teensy without physically accessing it. The Edison is mounted on the mini breakout board, running Yocto linux and have a USB OTG host port.

I am not sure the Teensy can be programmed via Serial, but perhaps something can be done via the usb ports? I am looking for a time saver, not a huge project, so I thought I might ask in case others have done this.

Programming the Teensy over USB is the most likely to work. There's been a ton of discussion about possible other ways, I don't recall any practical alternatives yet.

At the moment there is no easy mechanism to program via serial due to the design of the board and bootloader. Down in the links are various projects where you write your code to self update but I'm not aware of any that are easy to use at this time.
