I just wanted to share a quick little hack I use to get around the issue of having to cut the solder pads on the back of the Teensy when using external power.

As mentioned by Paul on the following page (https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/external_power.html), one option is to cut open a USB cable and snip the red power wire, which is perfectly viable. However, at this stage it's just as easy to put a switch on the 5V line and maintain all functionality of the cable (power and data transfer).

Using inline cord switches is an elegant solution, which can be seen below in a sample I made. They are cheap and durable and keep all the wires nice and tidy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MU4H1I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
