Guidance on powering a device w/LED

I have a device which is just an infrared LED and a photodetector. There is no datasheet, but there is a note that the required power is 6V and 5mA.

I can see that I can power it, but I want to power it with the smallest battery possible for several hours. If I'm understanding correctly, do I need to figure out at what voltage the LED gate opens?
Or can I get my resistor value by 6V*.005=1.2kOhm

Any suggestions for a small power source and the resulting resistor and/or capacitor?

Will x2 CR2032's work?

Thanks.

found this on CR2032's, so it sounds reasonable to me: http://www.ti.com/lit/wp/swra349/swra349.pdf
