Hey All,

I have 800+ DIP S44232 telephony codecs that I got from a junk sale. I separated out all the good parts I want and I had these leftover. What would be a cool project to do? The only thing I can think of is making an intercom system for each room.

It requires minimal number of parts, with just a clock source, some capacitors, and a speaker and they have their own D/A A/D converters. I would have used the converters themselves, but they are 800hz (and 8 bit resolution) which isn't useful for anything I need. I am just thinking of junking them since finding the datasheet was hard enough, it seems as though there is no point in posting them on ebay.

Thanks in advance.

A-law and u-law work well for single voice audio. But as soon as you try to use them for more than 1 voice, or music, the non-linear step sizes really kill the quality of the lower amplitude signal(s).
