Is it possible to have 2 teensy boards communicate over the usb?

If I plug a 3.2 chip directly in to an LC chip, no data is transmitted.
Since both TX and RX pins are connected to each other, would it work if l tore the wire apart and crossed the TX and RX wires, so that chip1 TX would be connected to chip2 RX and visa versa?
I wanted to at least ask before I tried it and possibly ruin my chips...

If at all possible, I want to avoid using the chips TX/RX pins and communicate over USB. I'm building a housing that will use a LEMO connector, where the price per pin is about $10. So a 4 wire connector (just using USB) will be about $40 for the female half of the plug, and another $40 for the male half. I need 4 connectors in all, so I'd much rather spend $160 for the 4 pieces than over $200.

Thanks for any help!
