PC or Mac as Data Logger

Im squirting tons on data to the serial monitor for audio analysis.
I'd like to capture big chunks onto my MacBook for analysis in a spreadsheet.
To date, I'm cutting and pasting.
Any more elegant solutions- e.g a serial capture on the Mac, saving to a CSV file?

Since MacOS is essentially a *nix system, maybe you can just pipe the stream to a file on a terminal?

data stream format ?? if just CSV-type; that is, ANSI-delimited stuff, just do per above suggestion.

otherwise, use one could look at the rather nice Python async I/O to recieve the stream and parse and format.

It's designed to capture incoming serial data as efficiently as possible. It just discards the data, so you'd have to add code to make it write to a file.
