LCD touch based Teensy 3.1 based controller of Printrbot Simple 2016 made open source

I have been developing a lot of projects based on Teensy 3.1. January 2016 I have been hired by Printrbot to develop the LCD touch based IoT printer controller for the new Simple 3D printer. And now that the printer is shipping we have made everything open source!

I have written various blog posts about the development process and documented the source code so you can build upon our work!

If you ever wanted to build a LCD touch based IoT device have a look at what we did. Why reinvent the wheel again!? You will find a complete Teensy 3.1 based hardware, application stack, display system based on Views and Controls (text input, buttons, images) and a complete communication stack for easy and reliable communication between Teensy and ESP-8266.

as far as I know Printrbot is currently working on a DIY upgrade kit for existing Printrbot printers. It includes the Electronics and a new extruder. Just drop them a line (your best bet is Twitter: @printrbot) and ask for the upgrade kit. I am not sure if they will sell it in their store or upon just request.
