Hello,

I have a Teensy 3.2 connected to a Macintosh and constantly sending data over a USB cable (in serial mode).

The connection functions correctly for some time (around half an hour I'd say) then stops. However I have no idea where to look for the cause. Usually I have to de-plug then re-plug the USB cable before I can restart the connection.

Is it the computer? The Teensy?

Thank you in advance for helping.

Add a blinking LED to your teensy, and check if it continues blinking when the comunication stops.

The MacOS can mess up the serial USB connection if it goes into sleep/powersave while the connection is active.
I have seen it with several different USB serial connections, like Teensy USB but also FTDI serial adapters.

So these days when I need USB serial data to flow for longer times, I only let the OS turn off screen and hardrives, but not let
the system go into sleep mode

dont turn off hard drives as a standby, it degrades their lifetime expectancy.
at least on my surface book when i resume from standby the serial monitor is in sync still with data scrolling :)

It's not El Capitan, it's the good old Mountain Lion.

By the way, my computer is set to never go into sleep.

I'll test the blinking LED trick, thanks Frank B.
