I have successfully built a USB to DMX interface to control my DJ lights.
I'm planning on building this to control them vs using hot keys on the laptop.

Is it possible to have the arcade button midi controller searve both purposes?
Maybe a toggle switch to switch from one job to another?
Perhaps the sampler software lives on the PC and this is just a dumb midi controller?

Yes, possible and fairly easy too. You can send USB MIDI and DMX from the same Teensy. Of course you'll need to wire up a RS485 chip to one of the hardware serial ports for sending the DMX signal.
