Accurate Digital PPM Meter possible with Teensy 3.2?

    Hi,

i havent found anything in the regard so i will dare to ask here:

Most of the (Arduino, Teensy, DIY) Audio Meter Projects floating around are on a more or less advanced hobby Level, i havent seen anything that actually claims to comply with the standards of i.e. IEC TR 60268-18 (https://webstore.iec.ch/publication/1217) for digital PPM Meters etc... these exist in Software, also in open source as Linux LV2 plugins, like the ones from Robin Gareus et. al. https://github.com/x42/meters.lv2

I bought an old Wendt field mixer, which was fairly cheap BUT one of the VU Meters doesnt work. While these VU Meters are totally sexy and beautiful, a Sifam Replacement Part would be around $50 ... The Problem is that VU Meters are not really useful in digital recording anymore, a PPM Meter would be the way to go. Since i didnt find anything readily existing, i was contamplating if its worth the effort of trying a DIY Project for it.

This project would be over my head in terms of programming and hardware knowledge, but i am willing to learn. The first question would be if a Teensy 3.2 would be the right Platform to consider. In terms of ADC i guess yes, since the sample rate and the fact it has 2 of them is promising.

Before going any further into specifics, does a project like this already exist?

    Cheers,
    e.

Do you have a copy of the 60268-18 standard?

This is a subset of the IEC standard as used by the European Broadcast Union before switching to loudness metering as defined in EBU R128 (which is not interesting for location sound anyways)
