What's the best equipment for a big LED display?

What's the best board and equipment to power/control thousands of WS2812 LEDs?
I've tried a Teensy 3.2 with the OctoWS2811 adapter and a bunch of cheap transformers from eBay but I'm thinking of upgrading.

Suggestions?

Here is a teensy based project I am working on it can control up to 5440 pixels and decent frame rates. It uses e1.31 over Ethernet.

It really depends on how you intend to control the LEDs. If you want to play video from a PC, then OctoWS2811 with the VideoDisplay example and movie2serial on the PC works well. If you want to use PC software that sends Artnet or E1.31, then crees's solution or the (probably lower performance) Artnet lib is worth considering. If you want to do all the animation on the Teensy, then you probably want FastLED (and maybe use it's OctoWS2811 driver for efficient output).
