time alarms with DS3231 "ChronoDot" realtimeclock

need your advice: I ordered a DS3231 - Chronodot rtc. been searching for a how to have this RTC to do time alarms ( run a function every 5 hours : change a fastLed animation )
what would you recommend to do.

This is a Teensy forum, which Teensy are you planning on using? The Adafruit chronodot (I2C) has a product page describing various libraries and examples that support alarm functions, see

The Teensy 3.5 and 3.6 have an onboard 32K crystal for native RTC support, but crystal is not temperature-compensated like the DS3231.
