Hi all
I am designing a "medium size" micromouse that works with MK20DX256, and I was wondering what is the specific function of IC MKL02 / 04, and if it is possible to place it on an external PCB, (in the same way that STM32 work with the ST-Link).

I'm talking about making a "Teensy External Programmer", like an ST-Link, using the MKL02 / 04 chip.

I know that MKL02 / 04 is small, but at half - size micromouse , every mm² is very valuable.

The MKL02 / 04 is only used to flash a new program to the MK20DX256. It's totally possible to place the MKL02 on a separate programming board and only use it for updating code.

You totally can but are you really saving much space? Surely the size of a pin header (even 2x6 @ 1mm pitch) is going to be bigger than the MKL02 chip?

You could also externalize the USB and some diagnostics LEDs if you want. get more worth out of the connector/ daughter board.
