Teensy 3.6 and APA 102 LED strips HELP!

Do I need to use a level shifter to run Apa 102 led strips from the Teensy 3.6?

I am only able to get one led to turn on with the Teensy right now.

Code works just fine when I use my Arduino but I have a 5 volt output on the Arduino...

What does the data sheet of your LED strip say, which logic voltage is required? If it’s 5V, the answer is clear: You need a level shifter of the 74HCT125 or 74HCT245 type. Simpler (and cheaper) level shifters with only one mosfet Transistor and a resistor have a too slow slew rate (switching speed) which causes timing problems.
