Pass-thru serial I/O to other device

I'm looking to put a Teensy-based audio filter into a Nano-controlled radio. I could replace the Nano altogether, but I'd rather not have to worry about designing a new PCB for that part of the radio. I'd also like to avoid having to have 2 ISH connections to my computer, ie one for audio I/O to/from the Teensy, and one for serial comma with the Nano. I know Teensy can be both a USB Serial and USB audio service at once... Could I pass thru a subset of the USB serial I/O to the Nano via a serial connection on the respective controllers' GPIO pins? Would this realize a performance impact?
