I decided to build a S/PDIF setup, using the following parts (I haven't received these parts yet):
I just got a mail message from digikey that the TOSlink is now obsolete, and there doesn't seem a drop in replacement. Digikey still had some 900 in stock. But if you were thinking of picking one up, you might want to buy it now, while you can (or look for alternate suppliers).
