Serial monitor issues on Windows 10 - port conflict

Apologies if you know all about this, I couldn't find anything much on the forum myself but I'm a fairly new Teensy and Windows user, albeit with lots of Mac and Arduino experience.

I was having issues getting the serial monitor to work (I know about selecting the port after the code runs) and tracked it down to an issue evident in Device Manager. It seemed that there were two devices trying to use the same port, the Teensy and something called 'Intel Active Management Technology'.

To solve this, within Device Manager you can get the properties of the Teensy (showing as 'USB Serial Device') go to 'Port Settings' and 'Advanced' where you can change the COM port number to something not in use. Once I had done this my serial monitor was printing as it should (sort of... its slow compared to a normal Arduino?)

It should print much faster than most Arduino boards.

Try running this program on your Teensy, and on the Arduino board(s). What lines/sec speeds do you see on each?

I have seen this a few times in the past. The way I typically resolve this, is from time to time, I bring up the device manager with the option of showing all devices, even those which are not present...

And then I go through and weed out a lot of the Serial devices. I often have a lot of them as I play around with lots of different devices/boards..

Thanks Paul, my mistake re the speed...

Thanks Kurt, that's a good tip. I had loads of ports tied up, several for each device I have connected that needed uninstalling.

Is this Windows fault, trying to allocate two devices to the same COM port?
