Teensy 4.1 with Ethernet Kit: Sometimes link light not flashing --> no ethernet

I am using a Teensy 4.1 with the NativeEthernet library and everything is working well except that sometimes when I connect the board to power via USB, the flashing link light on the Ethernet kit never flashes.

I noticed when this happens and I start the Arduino environment, the port the Teensy is connected to shows up as "....bootloader...." rather than COMx. By disconnecting USB and reconnecting a few times, it eventually fixes itself and the light starts flashing (no change in code).

What may be causing this problem?

Thanks.

I read somewhere that the SD card needs to be started AFTER the network.

Could this be the problem?

Hi Jimmie, in my app, I set up the serial port, then the SD Card, then the ethernet (using NativeEthernet.h), so I don't think that is it. I do it in this order to allow me to get ethernet config info (IP address) from the SD card.
