I need to collect data from a remote sensor. I need to cut costs on sensors, so I'm looking for ways to remove the Teensy units from my remote sensors. I believe I can implement a three or four channel optical link using R, G, B and IR. The receivers on the sensor unit can drive the I\O pins on the sensor board directly, and the sensor board can in turn directly drive the returning emitters without using an MCU. At the base unit, with supporting emitter\receiver circuitry, I could just SPI or I2C ports as normal.
