Hello,

I am using external power for couple of servo motors using Teensy 4.0. The website says:

"Alternately, a pair of pads on the bottom side may be cut apart, to separate VUSB from VIN, allowing power to be safely applied while USB is in use."

So, to be on safe side, I cut the pads apart. But my computer does not recognize Teensy anymore and I can't use USB. If I connect the two pads again, Teensy goes back to normal and my computer recognizes it and I can program it using USB.

Based on the instruction, cutting the pads doesn't disable the USB connection, but it seems it does. Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks,

Cutting the pads apart then requires that you power the Teensy from a separate (not USB) supply. The idea is to allow you to have USB connectivity while powering the board separately using Vin without the problems of two power sources connected together.
