Hi,

I've built a small portable audio player using Teensy Audio shield. I use a 3W amp (PAM8403) and two small 3W 4ohm speakers.
I noticed that sound quality and overall stability is best when I power the teensy and the amp using separate power supplies.

I want to power the amp with something that can supply around 5 volts. I have this https://www.adafruit.com/product/2465 voltage booster but this actually performs worse than hooking the amp straight to the lipo battery. Why would that be?

I read on a forum that my amp should be powered by a 2A power supply for best results, but what does that mean? I see numbers like that on wall adapters but not on batteries.

I was thinking 4x AA nimh batteries would amount to 4.8 volts, would that be a good power source? Would it supply 2A? Sorry, my knowledge here is limited so apologies if my questions do not make much sense :)
