Someone here suggested I try PlatformIO and I now got it working on my Linux Mint installation. I found it confusing at first but eventually I figured it out.
I'm building a FLAC SD card music player and it's coming along nicely. I should have something working in a couple of days. It's staggering how easily it is to get this working.
I'm planning to add a LCD display and an IR remote control detector . Most likely the player will not have any buttons on the front panel since I don't think I have enough I/O pins left on the Teensy 3.1 I'm using.
