Modding a Saitek flight yoke with a Teensy LC

Hello all,
I've married a Saitek flight simulator yoke with a Microsoft FFB joystick. The MS control board and PS is mounted in the Saitek yoke housing. I am not using the Saitek control board at all. The FFB yoke part is finished and working better than expected.
The switches in the MS joystick were wired in a matrix while the switches in the yoke were wired directly with a shared common ground. To make things easier, I am going to mound a Teensy LC board in the yoke housing, and just run the switches from it. No problems there as I already have a Teensy in my Huey collective.
What I would like to do is run the display that is in the Saitek yoke handle (and it's 3 control buttons) via the Teensy board. Is this possible. I've never done anything like this. The most I've done with Teensy is switch inputs and servo/LED outputs.
Has anyone used a Teensy for their Saitek yoke display? Where is a good place to "learn up" on this?

Thanks for any help.
John
