Arduino IDE 1.8.19, Teensyduino 1.56, TyTools 0.9.7.
Symptom: Flash of Teensy 4.1 causes hard crash of laptop - screen freeze 10 seconds, unresponsive to keyboard or mouse, then laptop power turns off.
OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS & Pop-OS 22.04 fresh install.
Nothing obvious in syslog, nor dmesg. Seems there aren't any breadcrumbs to pick up.
On May 26, 2022, Ubuntu update done. It changed some video drivers and a couple of other things. After that, Ty Commander would cause crashes. I purged Nvidia, and reinstalled, but still got crashes using Ty Commander. I spend 5 days messing with this. Then I backed up my disk. Then did a fresh install of Pop-OS 22.04. After a day or two of configuring, same problem.
After playing about a little, if I don't enable TyTools, (after the crash, the integration with Arduino setting was not preserved,) but I just use Teensyduino to program my Teensy 4.1, the download completes and everything seemed fine. Prior to this, every time I used Ty Commander after May 26, 2022 my laptop would crash/turn off.
It would be nice to continue to use Tytools, as it has good support for multiple processors.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it possible to run tytools under valgrind, or some other tool that protects against kernel panics?
This crash occurs when loading my electronic lead screw project onto a Teensy 4.1.
I just now thought of another clue. I am powering the Teensy 4.1, a buffer board, the rotary encoder, and the PJRC ILI9341 board off an active USB3 hub, Atolla - 8 port, with a 4A 5.1V power supply. I noticed that the switched port does not turn on, if the USB cable is connected to the Teensy, but does, if I disconnect the USB cable that powers everything. I will try isolating the active USB3 hub through a passive hub. Maybe there was backfeed into the USB3 port on my laptop, via the active hub?
Can I power the Teensy not through the active hub? What alterations do I need for this?
