Improvement of a very basic foot controller circuit

Hello,

I have a very simple circuit where I connect a continuous foot controller into a Teensy's analog input through a simple TS Jack socket.

However there is an issue whenever I insert or remove the Jack plug from the controller when the circuit is connected. I guess it must cause some short-circuit or something like that.

Any advice on how to improve the circuit to avoid such an issue?

I didn't post any code because it seemed obvious the issue is not on the code side, but on the electronic side.

The code consists in receiving on one analog input and transmitting to USB continuously. So nothing special there.
