GEM menu library does not work when working with Adafruit GFX and SSD1306

The GEM menu library uses the Adafruit GFX library to talk to displays. I am using SSD1306 OLED display connected vi I2C. Driving the display directly using the GFX library works perfectly. Driving the display via GEM using the GFX library display random dots or the previous contents of the screen buffer depending on whether the display has been power cycled.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

The problem appears to be somewhere in GEM_Adafruit_GFX code in the init method.

Author of GEM here. Accidentally stumbled upon your post.

As I've mentioned in wiki (admittedly rather vaguely, sorry for that, I tried to make it more clear now), some displays used in combination with Adafruit GFX (notably Adafruit_SSD1306, Adafruit_SH110X, etc.) will require to explicitly call `display()` method of Adafruit GFX library at the end of the `loop()` (and after each explicit call to `menu.drawMenu()` ) to draw image buffer on screen. (Here is link to Adafruit docs regarding `display()` method.)

Alternatively it is possible to call `display()` method as a callback function that will be called at the end of each `drawMenu()` method (since GEM ver. 1.5.2):
