    newbie with question about MIDI

    I'd like to create a device, say a round surface about 5 inches diameter, that I could hit with the heel of my hand, and that event would produce a signal that is programmed to a MIDI note. Similar to a MIDI keyboard, only the control surface is my 5 inch surface, not a piano key.

    How can I make something like that? Or, where to start?!
