length of filename extensions for sdfat

I'm developing using Teensyduino on Platform IO for a T4.1 and using sdfat file system.

I know that it supports long filenames but does it also support more than 3char filename extensions?

Reason I would like this to be true is for json, yaml etc files for configuration etc

confirming I can read *.json files with this library no problem
