New SPDIF Driver

I saw on the web page that Paul was working on a new SPDIF driver.
Would it be possible to include a compile switch to make it serve as a AES-3 driver also. The differences in the format of SPDIF and AES-2 are very minor. There is a header byte and the meaning of a couple of fields are changed. If those fields were blanked, it would be fully compliant.

About a year ago, I looked into the difference between consumer SPDIF and AES3. Not sure why I looked into that - I think I wanted to know what digital format my Soundcraft mixer outputted on its 'digital-out' RCA connector (it's consumer SPDIF).
Anyway, found a number informative documents back then which may be helpful to someone. See the attachments.

Just curious: where did you actually read this?

I'm not sure that it is trivial though...

If I'm correct the current SPDIF driver has been developed by FrankB a.k.a. @Mcu32.
